Intorduction
Libraries have always been an important place for me. As a child, it was my go to place on Saturdays. Alone, I would walk to the library and get a bag full of books, regretting getting so many as soon as I started the walk home up the hill. Previous to this we lived in a more rural location, where we had a regular visit to the library bus that visited our village regularly.
Skipping forward a "few" years I decided on a career change in my late 30s and became a library assistant. Not your usual member of staff, but a big girl with a "loud" voice and purple hair. I was here, I was working with people and books and I loved it.
Skip forward again and I have applied for various positions within our library service, but without any success. I survived several reorganizations, and saw friends and colleagues come and go. With the help and advice of a new and younger manager, I succeeded in getting my CILIP certification. I applied for a higher position and got the job. I was officially a librarian. But although I have a degree, I do not have appropriate library qualifications. So as a "mature" distance learning student I have take the plunge. I am studying a MSc in Information Science. This is my story.....
